Awards

Each academic faculty will present awards to participants who show excellence in their respective areas of interest. Awards will also go to participants whose works especially embody the conference theme.

The awards ceremony will take place on April 4 at 4 pm.

To be eligible for an award, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Submit a conference proposal by February 21 and be accepted to the conference (acceptance emails will be sent on February 28).  
  • Submit completed project for judging by March 20. Submission instructions will be provided to all students accepted to the conference.  
  • Present project at the conference on March 30.

Kumuwaiwai Awards

The Kumuwaiwai Awards are sponsored by the Kumuwaiwai Center for Sustainability and will be judged based on how well research projects embody principles of sustainability and/or the conference theme.

Kumuwaiwai Research Presentation Award

1st Place: $200

2nd Place: $100

3rd Place: $50

The awards will be given to the top three oral presentations given by students of any academic major whose presentations best address Kumuwaiwai’s motto of “Ka wa ma mua, ka wa ma hope.”  If the winning presentations are given by a group, the award funds will be split between the individuals of the group.
Students will be judged on Kumuwaiwai’s mission: To be good stewards over earthly resources; to also draw upon the rich body of traditional knowledge about sustainability found throughout Oceania and Asia. Conduct research, educate and apply sustainable principles and practices to prepare future leaders of society, industry, government, and academia in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Kumuwaiwai Research Poster Award

1st Place: $200

2nd Place: $100

3rd Place: $50

The awards will be given to the top three poster presentations given by students of any academic major whose presentations best address Kumuwaiwai’s motto of “Ka wa ma mua, ka wa ma hope.”  If the winning posters are presented by a group, the award funds will be split between the individuals of the group.
Students will be judged on the quality of their research design, interpretation of results, poster layout, and presentation of their findings. Students will be judged on Kumuwaiwai’s mission: To be good stewards over earthly resources; to also draw upon the rich body of traditional knowledge about sustainability found throughout Oceania and Asia. Conduct research, educate and apply sustainable principles and practices to prepare future leaders of society, industry, government, and academia in the Asia-Pacific Region.
